Frustration

Well, I haven't been posting because there is nothing to post about! After the 5k on Saturday, I took Sunday and Monday off because my hip was feeling tight. Then after yoga on Tuesday I did 3 miles. Something just didn't feel right but I pushed through. The next day, I was unable to put any pressure on my right hip. I could not walk! The Fourth of July was pretty painful. I decided that I needed to take a break and let myself heal. Well, here I am a week later and still slighly limping. I am heartbroken. I don't think that I will be able to resume my training and be able to complete the Half Marathon on my birthday. It just kills me. I'm itching to run, but I'm going to start with a walk first. Hopefully soon.

At least my son got to enjoy the Fourth!

Begging for ice cream from everyone

Mom, I just want to watch the fireworks!

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. The pain is when I put pressure on the leg. It seems to be deep inside where my leg connects to my hip. I've been icing but it feels deeper. I'll try to keep you updated.

Lehi Roundup 5k

I decided to do the 5k this week even though its not on my race schedule for 2 weeks. It was just too tempting to pass up a 5k that is at the Rec Center that I frequent a few days a week.

Before my makeup. My headbands match my tanktop and shoes. :)

I drove there by myself of course, and parked. I walked up just as the 10kers were taking off. 7 a.m. Yuck.

Everyone waiting for the 5k to start

My shoes ready to get running

I started out pretty well. There were a few people in my way, but not bad. Eventually though the people just started to pass me. ugh. So frustrating. I was happy with my pace though so I couldn't be too disappointed. I was keeping somewhere between a 13 to 14 min/mile.

This is just after we met back up with the 10kers. They were schooling me passing left and right. Some said encouraging things which was nice, but I don't know how people go that fast. BTW, it is very difficult to take pics while running, I learned.

Afterwards I felt pretty good about myself. That lasted  until I saw the stats the next day. I finished 162 out of 192 women. I thought for sure that I had done better. My time was 41:34 not the under 40 I was hoping for but close. I'll just keep chasing that dream.

I don't think that you can read my tanktop but it says "Boobs are nice, but it's all about the brains." My Aunt had these made up after my Uncle passed away from Brain Cancer. Breast Cancer gets so much awareness so she wanted to bring some to Brain Cancer. I thought that they turned out cute.

As a reward I got to go see Magic Mike with the girlies Saturday night. So much fun to gossip and enjoy my friends. Plus the eye candy. Oh, the eye candy. *drool*

Do they fit?

I do a warm-up before every run. Whether its walking for 1 min up to 5 min. I just don't like the feeling of starting out running cold. My legs don't work right and my stride is off. Yesterday I did my 6 miles. It was hard! I struggled through it but I made it. I was very slow averaging 16:48 miles but I'm not too sore today so I'm trying to look at the positive. I had to push the run back to Sunday because I wasn't able to complete my Thursday night run and it got pushed to Friday. Hubby and I had a battle and he won. :(

My training schedule calls for a 5k next Saturday but there is one in my town this weekend so I'll probably sign up. I'm completely and totally nervous after my 10k, that I'll be last again. I've just got to get over those nerves and make it happen.

I was able to wrangle the boy on Saturday and go to a local parade. The night before I was worried about what I was going to wear because none of my shorts or capris fit right now. I was even thinking about digging out maternity capris! (what? it's really hot here right now) Last minute I decided to try what I had and lo and behold one pair fit! I was completely shocked. My body has changed since having a baby because some others that fit before don't fit now but I hadn't worn these shorts since our DisneyWorld trip in 2010 and I was at least 20 pounds thinner. Weird.

Capris that fit now! (ignore my non-makeup face)

Running through the Sprinklers

I went on a late evening run last night and it was great! I didn't have to take the jogging stroller so my time was much faster. I was also hurrying to get home before dark and before I was eaten alive by the bugs. At the end I had to run through a couple sets of sprinklers and it ended up being fun. I felt like a little kid again.

I am still taking walking breaks but last night I think I only took 3 or 4! That's only one time per mile. It makes me feel so good to see the progress that I'm making. I still haven't lost any weight which is frustrating but I'm sure that it's the food that I eat. Hopefully someday soon I will be ready to tackle this issue. Because I'm sure that if I was thinner I would be much faster.

I'm looking forward to my "short" run tonight and the weekend with just me and my boy. Hopefully a parade is on our schedule. :)

Thinking and Running

When I'm running I think of all these awesome things to talk about on my blog then I get home and I've completely forgotten! haha. Yesterday I really struggled through my run. I think my average pace was almost 17 minutes! I did my 5 mile run on Saturday so I'm wondering if I was just tired. I'm really scared that maybe my body just won't be able to handle Half Marathon training. I'm gonna push as long as I can.

I went to the doctor and she thinks that my blood sugar is off. Because last time I lost a significant amount of weight I was on a pill to help regulate it. I told her that I've tried to get back on this particular medicine but it makes me extremely ill. She ended up giving a prescription for a new form of it that has extended release. That was a week ago and I've been pretty sick every day. Stomach cramps, diarrhea, and nauseousness. Today is the day that I'm supposed to up the dose but I think I may hold off. Yuck.

So, I found out that I am losing my job for sure and its put some new stress on me. We have to be out of our office on August 20th so I'm going to try to work full-time until then. That leaves running to nights or early mornings. Neither sounds like a fun option but I'm going to just have to work it out.

I took this pic the other day because I have on pink and purple headbands and blue and red tanktops. Ya. I match like that.

Looking forward

So, things have been busy. My daughter finished up the school year. She had her dance recital which was an adventure in itself. (Not enough seats for excited mothers=Total chaos) I may be losing my part-time job. *sigh* And summer has officially begun!

I've decided to go ahead and start the Half Marathon training. The whole thing still looks extremely daunting to me, but I'm thinking that if I take it one step at a time and not concentrate on the end then maybe I can make it. I ran for 3 miles, 3 days this week. I'm following Hal Higdon's Novice 2 Half Marathon training. The first day was done on the treadmill, but the second I ran at 7 am while my daughter attended cheer practice. It felt good to be outside and doing something. The third run was back on the treadmill. The weather has been so unpredictable. I checked out my treadmill and it is set at a 2.0 incline. I am thinking that might be why I'm a little slower on it. On another note. I keep forgetting to log my runs on DailyMile! I am a complete slacker.

This weekend will be the last one we spend as a family before my daughter goes to visit her "other mother". I am expecting lots of fun even though the waterpark has been ruled out due to weather. Boo. Drive-Inn or Bowling sounds fun. Have a good one!

This and That

I got the email saying that the pictures from the race are ready and wouldn't you know it. There are absolutely none of me! haha. My hubby said that the photographer left a few minutes before I finished. Ugh.

I'm still glad that I chose the 10k but I haven't really been telling too many people that I came in last. When they ask how it went, I just say "good".

I called the doctor and made an appointment today. They didn't have anything until the 12th. Hubby and I are a little worried. I am basically the same weight I was after I gave birth a year ago. I haven't really lost or gained anything. And I told you guys about the hormonal changes. I also want to get my thyroid levels checked. I am currently on medication but I'm wondering if something has changed. It's kind of frustrating when your body doesn't want to cooperate.

On Monday I did an easy 2 miles. It felt good. My knees were a little sore after the race. Then I did 3 miles on Wednesday on the treadmill. I'm way slower on the treadmill. Is anyone else like that?

My son ended up having two birthday parties. One on his actual birthday at the Baseball game and one on Sunday with all of our family and friends. It was a wonderful weekend!

His First Cake at the Baseball Game!

His Second cake at our house with a #1 sparkler!

His Third Cake just for him!

What he did to the Third Cake! haha

My First 10k!

I did it. I came in last place. But I did it. :)

My stuff all laid out the night before. I was SUPER nervous!

I got to the starting line about 7 a.m. Picked up my race packet and then just sat in my car getting everything organized. I headed to the restroom at 7:45. Then we started to line up and stretch. It sucked being alone. I knew one other person that was going to be there but I didn't see her until we lined up. I knew that she was way faster than me so I was on my own. From the chip times I now know that there were 136 people. I lined up in the back with a few other people and we were off.

The first mile felt good. I had decided to run each mile for something. The first mile was for my grandparents because I was going to be running right by my grandfathers house! My watch said 13:30 at the end of the first mile. I was about 3rd from last at this point. The 2nd mile was a slight incline. Not much but I felt it. People passed me and I was last. I kept a few people in my sights the whole race but from then on out I was it. At every station or intersection I got to say "I'm it". But you know what I kind of didn't really care. It felt good just to be doing it.

End of Mile 2 my watch said 27. I was doing great! I only walked through the drinking stations.

End of Mile 3 my watch said 41. Still keeping up a 13-14 min mile. I was having fun. I don't remember my mile times after that because I was just focused on finishing.

Somewhere between Mile 4 and 5 I tried to eat some Sugar Babies that I brought but I just couldn't eat and run at the same time. Something I will need to work on. The last mile was hard but I kept right behind the woman in front of me. I got stopped at an intersection because they had opened the roads back up but it was only for a few seconds. I saw my family at the Finish Line! Then I realized that my friend had waited. I was happy until I found out later that the Finish Line had been packed but everyone left before I got there. haha. Oh well. They cheered for me and it felt good. We grabbed some french toast and hung around for a bit but it was boring so we left.

My Chip Time was 1:26:20. That's a 13:55 min/mile. I am happy with that.

Yup. Very Last. Oh well.

Mile 1 - Grandparents. My biggest cheerleaders. I only have 1 grandpa still with us.
Mile 2- Law Enforcement Officers such as my hubby
Mile 3- Those that can't run.
Mile 4- My Family
Mile 5- Me!
Mile 6 - Uncle Junior that passed from Brain Cancer but was encouraging during my first running adventure.

My Sugar-Free Mango Slurpee that I got as a treat. :)

I see more 10k's in my future, but I've got my eye on a Half. ;)

The Technical Shirt. Not too flattering yet, but I'm working on it.

Go Big or Go Home

I did it. I registered for the 10k. I figure that even if I fail, I will have attempted a harder feat and hopefully people won't look down on me too much. I suppose that I could still change my mind but barring sickness or injury I'm sticking with the plan.

I've been dying for a Garmin but I can't justify the expense so I tried out the Runkeeper App last night. It seemed pretty accurate to me so I think that I'll use it on Saturday to help me keep my pace.

Also, I have only been using my inhaler for longer runs so I'm hoping that by using it on Saturday I will be able to breathe better thereby going faster!

My hubby has an ipod holder/strap thing for his arm and I tried it last night with my phone in it and it worked perfectly. However I moved it to my wrist, I didn't like how it felt on my arm. I'm hoping that there is enough room in the little pockets on it for my inhaler. Just in case. I'm not going to carry water. I'm just going to count on the aid stations for that.

Do you guys think that I need to bring some sort of sugary snack? What would you recommend? I thought something to suck on might be nice but I'm worried that I'll choke. haha. Any other advice is appreciated.

My solution to my hair washing dilemna was to cut a bunch off. 6 inches. My hair grows pretty fast. Here is the result. It has made washing and drying a little easier.

The Past Few Days

So Saturday I wanted to attempt 5 miles to determine whether I was going to be able to do the 10k coming this Saturday. For some reason I got it in my head that I needed to do 11 laps around my local pond to make 5 miles. Well I was wrong. That gave me 5.8 miles! I was getting discouraged during the run because it took me an hour and a half. I thought that there was no way that I would make 6.2 in the same about of time, but I'm SO close! I don't know what to do. Do I sign up for the 10k and run the risk of being last and not being to finish, or do I play it safe and just sign up for the 5k? Decisions, decisions. I'm running out of time. (haha. Get it?)

Yesterday I set out to do 3 miles. Cause that is what's on the 10k training schedule and good thing the bathroom was open at the pond. I had to go! I timed myself. It took 3 minutes with handwashing. What if I have to go during the race? I NEED those 3 minutes.

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Also, guess who is turning 1 on Friday??? This guy! I can't believe it. My boss is letting me have our Company Suite at the Salt Lake Bees Baseball. I'm very excited. :)

Weird Running Injury?

Tuesday morning I took off for my usual route. I was pushing the jogging stroller and just found myself struggling most of the time. My boob kept itching and it was driving me crazy! But there are homes around my path and I thought it would be weird if I reached inside my sports bra to take care of the problem. Maybe it's just me but I would laugh at someone that I saw doing that. I jumped in the shower when I got home. When I got out I looked to see if it was a rash or something and I had a perfectly straight line scrape! Huh? I checked my sports bra and found nothing in there, but it was clearly a scrape. Anyone ever had this happen before? I know the bra was clean because I got it out of my drawer. Weird.

I had a dark day yesterday. Ever since I've had my baby I've been super sensitive and things hurt my feelings very easily. I think that my hormones may be out of whack or something. I don't think that it's post-partum because I'm not depressed. I just get upset that people don't care about me or that they say rude things behind my back. I never really cared what others thought before. My sons 1st birthday party is next week and no one really wants to come. Ugh. My dad, step-mom and sister are leaving for Europe on my sons birthday! In fact they left last year when he was in the NICU and I'm still upset about it. Anyways, off subject. I ended up eating quite a bit. Frustrating how the two go hand-in-hand. I wish I was one of those people that can't eat when they're upset.

Anyone else noticed changes in themselves after having children?

This is the actual scrape. Just really, really close up so you can't tell what it is. :)

Monday, May 14, 2012

Well, I'm getting back into the swing of things.

I remember reading in one of my weight loss books the author saying that the people at his kids soccer practice were complaining that they just didn't have the time to workout but they just sat there during that hour. I decided to take this to heart and while my daughter was at her Thursday evening dance class I loaded my son in the jogging stroller and took off. It was an industrial area so it was kind of strange. Also the wind was crazy and I felt like I was hardly moving at some points. Ugh.

Saturday morning I wanted to see how long it would take me to do 4 miles because I'm still considering doing a 10k on the 26th. I managed to get in done in about an hour which was my goal. I was very excited! My normal running path was filled with people because apparently they are going to have a soccer season there. haha. So I must have been motivated. I would need to do the 10k in an hour and a half because that is as long as they are closing the roads for. I am extremely afraid of being kicked off the course so I'm not sure that I'm going to do it.

I've been thinking alot lately. There is a Half-Marathon the day after my 31st birthday. It's in August so I should just have enough time to train. I would have to go this one alone because I have no one that would be interested in training with me. The race sounds fun because it's women only and very girly. They even have a 1-mile Princess run. Man, I'm scared to commit myself to it though.

I have a question. How do you deal with washing your hair every day? I get so tired of it. I used to go every other day, but now that's out of the question.

I'm back :)

I did my first run back on Tuesday. I was SLOW. I only did 2.2 miles and it took me 40 minutes. Later that night I went to Yoga then Wednesday I did a short workout video.

I'm trying to get together my motivation to run today but so far it hasn't worked. I wanted to do a 10k on the 26th but I just don't think that I can do it. You have to do at least a 15 minute mile because they are only closing the roads for an hour and a half. I'm gonna do a 5 mile next Saturday and see how it goes. Maybe I'll do a fake race see how long it takes me. I'm pretty passionate about this race because all the proceeds go to the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Fund and my husband is a Corrections Officer. Also, if I do the 10k then I can run past my grandfathers house. If all else fails then I'll at least do the 5k.

My friend took me shopping yesterday and I was able to score some workout capris and pants for less than 10 bucks a piece! It was at Rue 21. They are just yoga pants but they'll work for now.

I ordered Jillian Michaels 6 week 6 pack yesterday. I just cannot take this baby belly anymore!

I make him wear this hat when it's windy out. No ear infections for us.

My First Ever 5k!!!

I was running this with my mom and my uncle. The morning of I called my mom to make sure she was up and she said that my uncled bailed. Boo. My mom had to work later in the day so I'm grateful that she didn't bail. Thanks mom. The morning ended up being very cold compared to the weather that we have been having. We found the start but there was hardly anyone there. We got our shirts and went back to the car to keep warm.

Right at 9 we made our way back to the start but they said that they were still waiting on people to arrive. at about 9:15 we took off. I would say about 30 of us. haha. I left my mom walking and took off. I started off trying to run 4 min and walk 1, but couldn't quite keep up that pace so in the end I was doing 3.5 min to 1.5 min of walking. There were a few hills which were very new to me because where I tend to run is very flat. When I saw the 1 mile marker my HRM said 13 min! No way! After being out for a few weeks with this kidney situation I was beaming.

I only got a little choked up at one point. I was just thinking about my family that has passed that would love to cheer me on.

There was a short out-and-back after that I saw my family drive by looking for me! It was a great boost. I wasn't sure that they were going to come.

I headed down the hill and was told to do 2 laps around the pond and I would be done. Ummm. Awkward. I had to run through the finish line and then back around again. I saw my family on my first pass and then on my final pass they hadn't even made it to the finish line. In fact there was nothing at the finish. No clock, no people cheering. No one handing out water. Nothing. What a let down. I checked my HRM and it was 41:45!! I was so proud! I thought for sure that I would break down at the finish but it was just pretty lame.

A few minutes after I finished my mom came up behind me. I said "you didn't go around the pond twice did you?" She said "Nope, not even once, I cut back this way". haha. She truly just did this just for me. It meant a lot. We hung around for a bit and my mom won a 5 lb jug of protein powder that she gave to me.

The rest of the day I felt just great! Sunday I was a little sore but totally expected after my hiatus.

How do other people look so good after? I'm a mess.
All these were taken by my daughter.
Mom with her winnings.

All in all, it was SO much fun and I can't wait to do it again every weekend. :)

So tired

I'm tired of being sick. They ended up doing an Ultrasound of my kidney of Saturday. I'm still in a little bit of pain. I did Level 2 of 30 day Shred Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Last night the pain got really bad and I was doubled over but I seem to have turned a corner today because it only hurts a little. I went ahead and went to my usual Yoga class and there were only a few things that hurt, mostly when I laid on my back.

I don't know how to feel about the 5k on Saturday. It looks like I'm going to end up walking it. On one hand it upsets me because this was supposed to be my big day. But on the other hand I really can't be upset with myself. I didn't do anything wrong. My kidney just hates me!

If anyone reads this I promise that I was becoming a runner. My plans have just been derailed for a few weeks. I cried last night because I just want to get out there. I'm ready!

Not my kidney but my ultrasound was normal. That's good, right?

Trying to Get Better

Oh my goodness you guys!!! This has been one heck of a week! Most nights I've slept about 11 hours. Today I had a nap! I NEVER have naps. Ugh. I take my last antibiotic in the morning and I'm really worried because I do NOT think that I'm better.

I finally got it together enough to do Day 1 of Level 2 tonight. I begged my 10 year old to do it with me just so that I would go get started. She gave up after a few minutes but it was the motivation that I needed. I thought that it would be a lot harder than it was. I guess that Level 1 really did make me stronger. :)

On a side note: I asked my hubby the other day if this new shirt that I got looked okay on me and he said "oh ya, I was going to tell you in the kitchen that you looked skinny, but I forgot". Ugh. You forgot?!?! You just can't forget things like that, okay? ;)

I was up a pound this Friday, but I'm hoping that it's just from all the sleeping or something. I'll get it back. I'd like to run in the morning, but I'm not sure how that will feel. I might try out starting on the treadmill so I can stop if I need to.

My lil bestie at Cheer Tryouts. She made it! Yay!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Uh Oh

Well, Level 2 didn't happen last night. I slept for like 11 hours!!! I am feeling really good today so I hope that I'm through the worst. I'm still a little tender but that I can handle. I'm going to attempt Level 2 tonight but I also don't want to push it too much and set myself back. I really think that it has been the rest that has helped me get better. Some websites and people have said that it can take 2 weeks to get over a kidney infection! It'll be a week since I went to the doctor tomorrow so hopefully I'm on the upswing.

My first race is next Saturday! I'm getting super nervous!

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Tuesday

I'm at work today. ugh. (I work part-time) I am still feeling horrible. I was able to do Days 9 and 10 of Level 1 of the 30 Day Shred. It was hard but I pushed through it. The muscles right around my kidney seem to hurt also. I can't stretch that side and it's hard to lift anything heavy. I'm on Day 6 of my antibiotic and I'm feeling somewhat better, but not there yet. My guess is that I'll have to do another round of medicine. I haven't been running because I just don't have the energy. I am working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so my hope is that I'll be feeling better by Friday so I can get a run in on my day off.

I'm going to try Level 2 tonight. Wish me luck!

Oh, and I'll try to stop being such a Debbie Downer. :)

Frustration.

I just finished the 30 Day Shred. I'm exhausted and I'm going to bed. I didn't do the Shred yesterday because I was just in too much pain.  I'm frustrated. Ughgghghghghghghgh.

I feel like a fraud. Since I've started this blog I was sick for a week with a cold and didn't get much running in and then now with this kidney infection I fear that I may not run again for awhile. I'm achy, exhausted and still in pain. I'm still planning on running the 5k on May 5th because my family is doing it and they are walking so if all else fails I'll stick with them. I would really like to train for a 10k on May 26th but it all depends on when I can get better.

I'm being whiny but it's not fair. I wanna go back to being amazing.

At least I have this guy to keep me company while I recoup. :)

Kidneys. Ugh.

I broke my streak and I am NOT happy about it. Here's the story.

When I started the 30 Day Shred my back starting hurting a little but I assumed that was normal because of working new muscles. Well yesterday my back was just killing me every time I moved. Now in the past I've had 4 seperate kidney stones, lithotripsy (a procedure to break up kidney stones) and numerous kidney infections. All of the sudden it hit me, that's what was hurting, my stupid kidney! I made an appointment at the After Hours Clinic and after an hour long wait they informed that I did indeed have a kidney infection. Ugh. I was in too much pain to do my Shred. I was really upset but I've got two doses of the antibiotic and am starting to feel a little better so I'm hoping that by late this evening I will be able to get back on track.

Yesterday was a bust!

Not me. Just in case you were confused. ;)

Do you think that I could be ready for a 10k in 5 weeks?
