My Running History

Before June 2009 there is no running history. I never ran track in high school. I was never involved in a race. Running never really even crossed my mind. I did some dancing in high school and then became a Flight Attendant after high school. Both of these activities kept me semi-slim, and then I got married, took a desk job and went back to school. Before I knew it I was overweight and extremely unhappy. I started looking for answers.

First, I visited the doctor who told me that my thyroid was low and that I have PCOS or Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. I went on medication for both, but I still struggle to keep taking my meds. Then I found a website; sparkpeople.com. I loved it from the beginning. I tracked my food intake and physical activity. I lost a little weight and on one of the boards I heard about the Couch to 5k program. I like structure and organization so this seemed perfect. I graduated the program in August 2009. Life was good and I lost about 40 pounds.

In November 2010 I found out that I was pregnant. I wanted to keep up with my running but unfortunately the doctor told me that I needed to take it easy after a miscarriage scare. I gained all of my weight back during my pregnancy even though my son was born 2 months early. Ugh. Then my main focus was him for awhile. Now that he's older (10 months) I'm ready to get moving. I chose not to do the Couch to 5k program this time around because I would like to be able to run for an hour on the days that I am able to. I am still starting off with interval running but just going for a longer period of time.

Well that was long-winded. I am extremely slow at running but I'm proud of myself for getting out there and doing it. Thanks for reading.

Not too long after finishing Couch to 5k. Feeling pretty good about myself. :)

About Me

I turned 30 this past year. Enough said about that.

I have a ten-year-old daughter that I suppose is technically my step-daughter but her “other” mother doesn’t live around here so I’m mommy. I also have a 10-month-old son. Quite an age gap but it works for us.

My hubby works as a Correctional Officer. I work part-time now because my son was born 8 weeks early and they don't recommend that he goes to a daycare this winter with all of the sicknesses that go around. We don't have a lot of money, but we are happy. We will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in August.

I grew up in an average household, parents split up and married other people. I have 3 sisters and a brother. I have nicknames for my sisters. One is "the one close to my age". She's about 3 years younger. One is "the black one." She is adopted and will turn 18 in July. And the youngest is "the blonde one." Because her hair is white blonde. She will be 16 next week! My brother is just my brother. :)

I've always had these thoughts in head since I was younger. Like "how would a millionaire handle this situation?" or "how would the head cheerleader react to that question?" Basically I've always wanted to be "one of those people." Either rich, pretty, popular or in this case Active and Healthy! I am going to do my best to become who I want to be and you can just sit around and read about my progress. Okay? :)

Here is one of our attempts at getting healthy. Family night at the pool! So fun.

The beginning.

I want to be “one of those running people”. You know who I’m talking about. One of those people that if you asked them to run a 5k this weekend they would say "sure". Someone that if you said “hey, let’s go on a hike right now” they would say "okay". I don’t want to be nervous when someone says “let’s go swimming/biking/dancing tomorrow". I want to be able to say, “what time?”

I want to lose weight in the process, but this whole running thing is calling my name. I’ve been checking out a few blogs and my mouth just salivates with the possibilities before me.

I have so many questions though! I know pretty much nothing about running. I’m hoping to start finding some answers while sifting through other blogs, google and my trusty sparkpeople website.

I hope I can find some people to join me on this journey. Here it goes. J
